Great Jewelry Design with Found Objects

Designing your own jewelry can be a thrilling experience.
Historically, the first jewelry was created with found objects, such as seeds, feathers, and shells.

Most glamorous modern-day jewelry expresses the act of the occasional celebration, as opposed to a person's every day life experience.

With "found object" jewelry creations, you can achieve a highly creative and unique look that holds underlying meaning. Says Marthe Le Van, author/editor of no less than thirty-five titles on jewelry making: "Found object jewelers value the visual, tactile and symbolic appeal of an object."

Examples of objects you can transform into one-of-a-kind pieces include beverage cans, stamps, clock gears, small antique keys and other trinkets, game board pieces, sea glass, dried flowers and whatever your imagination brings.

When creating your jewelry, don't limit yourself to the possibilities that could unfold before you. Experiment. Be open to making mistakes, and follow your heart. Your unique handcrafted jewelry with found objects just might be the next big trend!
